South Africa Repatriates 586 Nigerians Lacking Valid Visas

South Africa's Department of Home Affairs confirmed the deportation of 586 Nigerian nationals residing illegally, with the first group of 268 departing on June 11 and the rest scheduled for June 15. Declared undesirable under the Immigration Act, they face a five-year re-entry ban, as deportations have risen 46% in two years. In Lagos, NiDCOM's Abike Dabiri-Erewa welcomed them tearfully, insisting their only fault was the color of their skin, while offering cash support from MTN and Imo State; South African officials stress lawful enforcement and bilateral cooperation.
