POLICE MAKE BREAKTHROUGH IN SAMORA MACHEL CHURCH ROBBERY CASE
Their efforts paid off on Tuesday morning, 09 June 2026, when the members arrested five suspects between the ages of 27 and 39. Some of the items that were taken during the robbery were also recovered during the operation. The suspects are facing charges for business robbery and the possession of stolen property.
They are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ court on Thursday, 11 June 2026, on the mentioned charges.
The Arrests and Recovery
Following widespread community outrage, a joint force consisting of the SAPS Tactical Response Team (TRT) and provincial detectives launched an urgent tracing operation.

Five men aged between 27 and 39 were apprehended.
Police successfully recovered several of the stolen cellphones and pieces of church equipment.
The suspects face formal charges of business robbery and possession of stolen property.
