55yrs Old Woman Gang Raped By Young Men While Driving Home After Stopping To Check Her Vehicle
A school secretary's routine day turned into a living nightmare on Thursday when what should have been a simple bank trip became a horrific ordeal involving hijacking, sexual assault, and robbery in Queensburgh, KwaZulu-Natal.
The 55-year-old woman left her workplace carrying cash for a bank deposit, but things went terribly wrong while she was driving through Malvern. She heard a strange noise coming from one of her tyres and pulled over near a bus stop to check it out. That decision to stop would change everything.
An armed man approached her vehicle, pulled a gun, and forced her back inside her red VW Polo. What followed was a nightmare scenario. The suspect ordered her to keep driving while he subjected her to repeated assaults and sexual violence, all while maintaining control of the vehicle with his firearm.
The horror didn't end there. The man even tried to sell her car while she was still in it, making phone calls to potential buyers. When that didn't work out, he forced her to drive toward KwaMashu. Once they arrived, he switched vehicles, jumping into a white VW Polo with unknown registration before fleeing the scene. But not before stealing her bag full of cash and grabbing her bank cards from her wallet.
Traumatized and shaking, the woman managed to drive away and eventually stopped near the Duffs Road off-ramp on the M25. A passing motorist saw she was in distress and stopped to help her. That's when everything changed. The good Samaritan called for assistance, and Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrived at the scene around 12:07 after receiving the report.
When RUSA officers got there, they found a woman visibly broken by what she'd just endured. She was emotionally devastated and deeply traumatized. Thankfully, authorities confirmed she didn't suffer any physical injuries, though the psychological damage from this attack is something she'll be dealing with for a long time.
Police are now investigating the hijacking, robbery, and sexual assault. They're working to identify and catch the suspect, but right now he's still out there. This case is a stark reminder of how quickly a normal day can spiral into danger, and how vulnerable people can be when they're alone and exposed.
What needs to happen to make women feel safe carrying cash and stopping to check their vehicles without fear of becoming victims of violent crime?
