Soweto Mom And Baby Found Dead On Bed
Morning plans turned into a nightmare inside a quiet Soweto home. By mid-afternoon, Vuyiswa Dutywa forced her way into a back bedroom and found her sister Nasiphi and nine-month-old Ovayo lying lifeless on a neatly made bed.
Somewhere between the night before and that moment, something went terribly wrong. What really happened inside that house remains unanswered.
Nasiphi Dutywa, 41, and her baby were allegedly found dead on April 9 at their Soweto residence. The autopsy given to the family states poison ingestion, identified as Terbufos — a highly toxic and illegal pesticide.
She had been living with her boyfriend, a taxi driver, and was due to move out the very next day.
No container of poison was found at the scene, raising serious questions.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, an inquest docket has been opened and investigations are ongoing. The matter will allegedly be referred to an inquest court once postmortem results are finalised.
The family, however, claims officers at the scene allegedly failed to collect key evidence and became aggressive when questioned.
Authorities have not confirmed any suspects.
Documents show Nasiphi had previously lodged a maintenance claim against her boyfriend. Records also indicate she had stayed at a women’s shelter in Krugersdorp months earlier.
On the morning of April 9, the boyfriend allegedly called the family multiple times, claiming she had wronged him.
When Vuyiswa arrived, he was sitting calmly in the house.
The boyfriend has not responded to calls or messages. The family is now preparing to approach IPID and pursue further legal action.
Investigators are still working to determine what happened between the night of April 8 and the afternoon of April 9.
The truth remains buried in that silent room.
