An individual who was a Pakistani businessman was shot and killed inside his store in Meyerton, which is located south of Johannesburg. The police suspect that the shooting may have been a deliberate attack.

When two unknown individuals entered the little convenience shop while pretending to be customers, the tragic event that resulted in the death of two people took place on Wednesday afternoon. Some moments later, they opened fire on the 42-year-old proprietor of the store at close range, striking him multiple times before fleeing the scene without stealing any of the merchandise or cash that was in the store.

The arrival of emergency personnel occurred not long after the assault, however the businessman was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident. An official announcement on his identity has not yet been made because the authorities are still in the process of notifying his next of kin.

Numerous proprietors of retail establishments, particularly those hailing from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Ethiopia, have expressed their apprehensions regarding the growing number of instances of targeted violence and threats of extortion.

The victim has been the target of threats in the past, according to a shopkeeper who was located nearby and begged not to be identified (for reasons of safety). In addition to being quiet and focused on his work, he was a man of modesty. "This is not the first time that people have attempted to intimidate him," the proprietor of the shop disclosed.

SASTA, which stands for the South African Spaza and Tuckshop Association, has issued a statement condemning the killing and describing it as a blow to small business owners who are attempting to make an honest living despite the challenging economic conditions. These occurrences are not isolated in any way. Thabo Moeng, a representative for SASTA, stated that the organization strongly urges authorities to take prompt action and protect vulnerable enterprises.
