A Man Who Claimed To Be Pastor And Reported a Fake Highjacking To Police Has Finally Been Charged

A preacher who is 68 years old is scheduled to make an appearance before the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on May 5, 2025. He was taken into custody for allegedly providing a fake complaint about a hijacking after he was apprehended. At the conclusion of an inquiry conducted by the South African Police Service (SAPS), which revealed significant inconsistencies in the pastor's statements, the pastor was taken into custody.

On May 2, the pastor went to the Westenburg Police Station, where he opened a case stating that he had been kidnapped at gunpoint on April 11. This is according to the reports that were filed by the police. While he was driving his Daihatsu Terios in the direction of Polokwane, he told the authorities that he had promised to give two males who remained unidentified a ride. After some time had passed, he asserted that these individuals had taken control of the vehicle and abandoned it along the R37 route, removing the automatic transmission.

But the South African Police Service detectives were not persuaded by the pastor's account of what happened. Upon conducting a comprehensive investigation, it was discovered that the pastor's account did not correspond with the evidence. After conducting an investigation, the police found out that the vehicle had actually broken down on the day that it was intended to be hijacked owing to a mechanical issue. Along with his driver, the pastor had made arrangements for a tow truck to transport the vehicle to a repair shop in Lebowakgomo before the accident occurred.

After further investigation, it was determined that the gearbox was taken after the vehicle had already been brought to the repair shop, contrary to the claim that it was taken during a hijacking that occurred on the road. According to reports, the pastor revealed that he had manufactured the entire hijacking narrative when he was challenged with the evidence. It was immediately taken into custody by the police, and he was charged with obstructing the administration of justice by intentionally providing false information to law enforcement.

The arrest was confirmed by Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, who serves as the spokesperson for the Limpopo police department. He also emphasized how serious it is to report acts of fake criminality. "The filing of false reports is a waste of critical police resources and diverts attention away from real cases that require immediate investigation," Ledwaba said. His emphasis was placed on the fact that the arrest serves as a warning that activities of this dishonest nature would result in legal consequences.

However, the investigation into the case is still ongoing, and the police have suggested that additional charges may be brought based on the findings of the inquiry. The public's attention has been attracted to this occurrence, which highlights the significance of the importance of being honest while interacting with law enforcement officials.
