Dozens of partygoers turned on each other in a brutal brawl that played out in front of stunned police officers, it was a shocking moment when the drinking spot turned into a war zone where crates and bottles were flying.
Reports emerging suggests that the altercation began late Saturday evening and quickly escalated, with individuals using crates, bottles, and other makeshift weapons to attack one another. The scene turned into a battleground as screams and the sounds of breaking glass echoed through the informal settlement. What is more shocking is that the members of the South African Police Services were present during the incident but appeared unprepared for the scale and ferocity of the violence. Bystanders reported that while officers attempted to intervene, they were largely overwhelmed and struggled to restore order.
Some were beaten repeatedly on the head by crates, many people sustained serious injuries and some of them had to get urgent medical attention. Emergency services were called to the scene, but it remains unclear how many were hospitalized, questions are still being asked as to what happened leading to the fight.
Residents say tensions had been simmering earlier in the day during the party, which drew a large crowd. No official statement has yet been released by the South African Police Service (SAPS), and it is unknown whether any arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
