Mamelodi CIT Heist Suspect Vicky Nyalunga Shot & Killed In Laudium
According to police reports, officers tracked the suspects as they moved toward Laudium. Upon reaching Military Road, authorities attempted to intercept the vehicles. However, the suspects refused to comply, accelerating instead and opening fire on the pursuing officers.
The intense car chase ended just a few meters ahead, where the suspects abandoned their vehicles and engaged in a fierce gun battle with law enforcement. By the time the dust settled, six suspects lay dead, including Vicky Nyalunga, a well-known socialite with a reputation for flaunting his expensive lifestyle.
Nyalunga had gained notoriety both for his alleged involvement in high-profile cash-in-transit heists and for his extravagant lifestyle. He frequently posted videos showcasing luxury purchases, including a widely circulated clip where he was seen buying a R14,000 designer T-shirt in cash.
Authorities believe he was part of a well-organized syndicate responsible for a string of violent CIT robberies in Gauteng and surrounding provinces.
During the operation, police recovered multiple unlicensed firearms believed to have been used in previous criminal activities. Further investigations revealed that one of the getaway vehicles had been reported stolen in Clayville.
While six suspects were fatally wounded, one managed to escape during the chaos. Identified as Ayanda Nombebe (22) from Khalankomo in the Eastern Cape, he was later tracked down and arrested while hiding inside a nearby house.
Gauteng Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela commended the officers involved for their swift response, stating that the takedown was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle CIT syndicates terrorizing communities.
“Our officers acted decisively to prevent another violent robbery. We will continue to hunt down those involved in CIT heists,” Mawela said.
Police have urged anyone with further information regarding the syndicate to come forward as investigations continue.
