Buthelezi Earned Enemies Fighting for Zulu Monarch
In a recent address at the launch of the Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi ultra marathon in Durban, a KZN mayor expressed deep concern over the instability plaguing the Zulu monarchy. The mayor lamented that the ongoing "mayhem" is diminishing the dignity of the revered throne. This turmoil follows a series of dramatic events, including King Misuzulu kaZwelithini's dismissal of his traditional prime minister, Thulasizwe Buthelezi, and his spokesperson, Prince Simphiwe Zulu. The king has since appointed Prince Sylope Gumbela Zulu as his new spokesperson but is yet to name a replacement for Buthelezi.
The situation is further complicated by a court ruling that President Cyril Ramaphosa's recognition of King Misuzulu was unlawful, sparking a succession dispute within the royal family. The king's recent decision to cancel his wedding to Nomzamo Myeni has also raised eyebrows, highlighting deeper issues within the monarchy.
Ngubane also said, “Buthelezi worked so hard fighting for the Zulu monarch and by doing so he earned so many enemies"
The mayor's comments come as the legacy of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, a stalwart supporter of the Zulu monarchy, is celebrated through the ultra marathon. This year's event will take place on Freedom Day, April 27, and is expected to attract international athletes. The Buthelezi family expressed gratitude for the continued recognition of their patriarch's contributions. Additionally, there are plans to rename a municipality after Buthelezi, further cementing his legacy. Amidst these developments, the call for calm underscores the need for stability and unity within the Zulu royal family.
