A team of detectives from Inuka police station in Likoni Mombasa yesterday evening recovered an AK47 riffle from a criminal suspect who had been lynched by an angry mob.

According to police reports, the officers had been deployed by their officer commanding station to pursue armed criminal suspects after he had received ntelligence reports of an ongoing shooting incident in areas of Vyemani within Shikaadabu ward.
The officers who were at then on patrol within Checkpoint area rushed to the scene where they found a body of a man alleged to have been killed by an angry mob lying on the floor and an AK47 riffle placed besides him.
Upon interrogation, the officers established that the suspect had boarded a bodaboda from Likoni primary area to Vyemani grounds where after arrival he alighted the motorbike and started making long phone calls before he could pay for his fare.
The bodaboda rider then became suspicious and demanded his pay, but the suspect instead pulled out an AK47 riffle from a small bag he was carrying and started shooting on air to scare him away.
Thereater, the suspect then jumped onto the motorbike in order to run away with it, the brave rider pulled him off on the ground, and a struggle ensued.
The suspect tried to shoot him several times, but the rider managed to snatch the gun from him.
The commotion attracted the attention of neighbours who came to the scene and assisted the rider to stone the suspect to death.
During the commotion, two people sustained gunshot wounds accationed by stray
bullets.
Mary Trizer was hit in the left thigh and abdomen while Claudia Mwashighadi sustained injuries at the right abdomen.
Antony Otieno, the rider of the said motorbike, sustained tooth bits at the nose.
The three victims were rushed to the Likoni Sub-County Hospital for treatment while in fair conditions.
An AK47 riffle with twelve rounds of ammunition, a motorcycle with registration number KMGB 346B, a mobile phone, and four spent cartridges were recovered from the scene.
The body of the suspect, who, according to police was yet to be identified was moved to the coast general hospita mortuary awaiting postmortem and identification.
